Poetry Therapy Workshops

What I loved about Star Trek was the dynamic between Kirk, Spock and McCoy. To me, they represented logic, passion and action and the way in which humanity needed all three to succeed. I like to think I'm a combination of these three characters, and that I bring these three disciplines into my counselling style.
Honestly, though? McCoy and Kirk were my favourite: their expressiveness, their evident flaws, and their raw humanity. For all his intellectual prowess, Spock's repressed emotions made him vulnerable.
I've always been drawn to the Arts and Linguistics first and foremost. I had the privilege to teach Literature for 15 years, and it's my firm belief that novels, plays and poems teach us all we need to know about being human and how to cope with this strange condition of existence. There isn't a Shakespeare play out there that doesn't educate us on emotional regulation, relationships, the complexities of families, and the often crushing expectations of society.
I put my mental and emotional resilience down to having a firm foundation in Art, Literature and Drama: master the language of your emotional world, and you will become the master of your own mind.
